THIRD QUARTER 2014

On Monday, July 21, 2014, the Federal Courthouse was closed to host a special event celebrating the 150th Birthday of Buffalo Native Frances Folsom Cleveland. During the ceremony, Chief Judge William Skretny, County Executive Mark Pol0ncarz, as well as Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown paid special tribute to Cohen & Lombardo, P.C. for assisting with the Association for a Buffalo Presidential Center and the Frances Folsom Cleveland event.

Frances Folsom Cleveland, born in Buffalo, New York, is the only First Lady to have been married in the White House, and was quite a celebrity in her day. Her image was emblazoned on a multitude of items from china plates to soap products. An exhibit of collectible items including many featuring Mrs. Cleveland’s likeness is on display at the Courthouse and is open to the public through September 3, 2014.

MARYANN SACCOMANDO FREEDMAN and MICHELLE SCHWACH MIECZNIKOWSKI of Cohen & Lombardo are two of the driving forces behind the Association for a Buffalo Presidential Center, whose mission is to encourage the study and public awareness of the Western New York connections and contributions to the Presidency and national affairs.

The front garden at Cohen & Lombardo’s Elmwood Avenue office has been singled out once again for recognition by Buffalo In Bloom. The garden will be featured on their website. Organized in 1995, Buffalo In Bloom’s mission is to promote gardening throughout the City of Buffalo by recognizing and celebrating the efforts of city residents, businesses and institutions that beautify their streetscape with blooming gardens that can be enjoyed by anyone who walks or rides on our city streets. They offer gardening classes to City residents, and maintain the gardens at Niagara Square, in front of City Hall.

Cohen & Lombardo will, once again, be helping to sponsor the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts, during the weekend of August 23-24, 2014. Watch for our special “Art of Law” spread on the inside cover of the festival program.
